On the 30th of September 2019, the G12 students, moderated by Tara Natalia, commenced to play the third ever game of Assassins at Springfield.

The rules of this game are simple. Each player gets a “weapon” with another player’s name on it - this is the player that they will need to “kill”. The weapon is a wooden popsicle stick, and a player is killed once they are poked by the popsicle stick with their name on it. However, killing can only happen outside of the designated safe zones, which become smaller and smaller every passing week. In the beginning, the safe zone was within school grounds, including the futsal field and the bridge between buildings A & B, but not including the lobby, path to the futsal field, and the grass between the buildings.

After establishing these rules, the players will begin to kill in a loop, so that only one person will survive at the very end - this person is the winner, and they will receive the entire registration fee collected from participants at the beginning of the game: a grand total of Rp. 720,000.

Out of the three times this game has been played, this year’s showdown was definitely the most deadly and “assassin”-like. The first game was played in 8th grade, and the champion of that round was Gladys. The second game was played in 10th grade, and the winner was Wilson. Both these games were brutal in their own ways, with a lot of violent pushing and shoving to get players to fall into the killing zones. However, this time, a lot more scheming strategies were employed by players in order to climb to the top.

Case number 1: a truly impressive display of manipulation and trickery was demonstrated by Icha in order to kill her target - Hansen. She convinced him to work together with her, saying that she wouldn’t attempt to kill him for one whole day. Hansen, believing her, walked out of the safe zone, and was promptly and efficiently killed.

He stated his frustration succinctly with a single word in the Assassins group chat.

Case number 2: I successfully eliminated Carmen from the game, using information about the target’s after-school schedule. Through casual conversation with the target, I managed to fish out Carmen’s after-school plans - a Chinese lesson at 6PM. Carmen arrived at the location 10 minutes past 6, but what she didn’t know was that I had been waiting. Carmen exited the car, and I seized the chance. Her death was swift.

Case number 3 and the final kill: through dedication and sheer will, Edgar was willing to step over some boundaries in order to get to his final target - Greg. That afternoon, Wilson - who was working together with Edgar, deduced that Greg would be going to the gym at Puri Mall through means of checking Snapchat Map. Immediately, Edgar hurried to Puri Mall, and commenced a stakeout in front of the gym. About an hour afterwards, Edgar got the confirmation he needed. Greg had featured in his friend’s Snapchat Story, and it revealed his location inside the gym. Not wasting anymore time, Edgar stormed inside, found Greg, killed him, and promptly left. Victory.

Thus, the game ended with 2 winners: Edgar and Wilson. This was rather unconventional, but it was due to their predetermined team-up. Since we will be graduating next year, we probably won’t have the opportunity to play this game again in Springfield. However, other students are certainly welcome to take this game’s idea, and make it their own.
