On Friday, 23rd of August 2019, a handful of 12th grade students from the PB3 campus went on a field trip to visit the Aula Simfonia Jakarta and the Sophilia Art Center.

Both the Aula Simfonia Jakarta and the Sophilia Art Center were established by Dr. Stephen Tong - head of the Reformed Evangelical Church of Indonesia. The Aula Simfonia Jakarta was designed by Dr. Stephen Tong himself, requiring no service from professional architects during construction. Concurrently, the Sophilia Art Center displays Dr. Stephen Tong’s abundant collection of historical artifacts, acquired over many decades of his life.

The day started off with a sermon from Dr. Stephen Tong’s son - David Tong. He talked about God’s influence in science and art, followed by a narration of his academic success. Not only a sermon however, students were also required to sing one of Dr. Stephen Tong’s songs a grand total of six times.

Shortly afterwards, the tour of the Aula Simfonia Jakarta and the Sophilia Art Center begun. The Aula Simfonia Jakarta is a massive concert hall with a seating capacity of 1400. It also has a world-class acoustic system that relies purely on intricate architecture. The highlight of the concert hall however, lies in the concert hall’s pipe organ - weighing approximately 10 tons, and comprised of 3217 pipes.

The Sophilia Art Center is equally impressive with its extensive collection of western paintings such as The Creation of Adam and The Last Supper. Although all of them are replicas, the experience was made worthwhile as the history and features of each painting was explained in detail. A similar demonstration was given in regard to the Chinese antiques such as Ming porcelain and bronze bells.

Hopefully, other grade levels at Springfield will also be able to experience visiting the Aula Simfonia Jakarta and the Sophilia Art Center in the upcoming years
