The Summer 2021 collection of seasonal anime contains comedic yet exciting releases. Instead of being filled by full-on action series, this season’s shows provide the audience with lighthearted comedy. As this collection of shows were made to be shorter than average (around 12 episodes), the animation and the excitement definitely did not fail the audience.

Instead of a typical romance anime where the guy meets a girl and they fall in love, this anime, Kanojo mo Kanojo (Girlfriend,Girlfriend) was made so that the viewers will not have to root for one girl. Its objective is to appeal to the viewers and make them assume that every girl wins in the end. The plot of this anime is centered mostly around a male and his experiences and challenges that he and his girlfriends face on a daily basis. Although this show is rated rather low compared to other comedic anime released this year, it’s hilarious and ridiculous at the same time.

Moving on to Vanitas no Carte, this vampire-action series follows the adventures of a man named Noe who was originally on the journey to find a book that was rumored to have special healing powers. Although this anime is almost completely filled with comedy and jokes, it is also filled with common, cliché tropes that will be twisted into something utterly different, further leaning into themes like guilt and self-worth. Noe eventually meets Vanitas, who has the book that he has been searching for. Afterwards, they make a mutual deal to use the book for good; which is healing sick vampires.

As Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S already had a prequel released a few years back, this new season did not fail to impress. This series started off with the known Tohru, the maid dragon, working in a restaurant as a chef. As Kanna Kamui, Kobayashi and Tohru all have been living together without interruption or conflicts, a new dragon named Ilulu invades the Earth with the intention of destroying humanity. However, after the conflict of Ilulu and Tohru, Ilulu was curious as to why Tohru was so fond of Kobayashi and it resulted in her following around the lives of the dragons on Earth. Who knows where the problematic dragon will end up?

Also another series with a prequel, Tensei Shitara Datta Ken 2nd Seasoncontinues to lead a more serious path throughout the anime. After the defeat of the Blumund Army, the nation of Tempest hosts a meeting to decide on the Nation of Monster’s future. After the invasion of the Blumund, more problems arise, such as the disappearance of the Demon Lord Carrion and Milim Nava’s strange attitude. The True Demon Lord, Rimuru, decides to attack Clayman and defeat the puppet master of all of the current troubles. This series was highly anticipated by Shounen fans, but there have definitely also been mixed feelings about this season.

Although this season’s releases may seem questionable, they are all worth a try. The summer 2021 anime releases offer a plentiful amount of different series and styles.
