The Sumeru Review

As most fans have fully explored the three nations, Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma– it is safe to say that they are now blessed with fresh content and their Genshin burnout has vanished. With the breathtaking nature-esque sceneries and exciting character lore, players are enfolded with the unique plants and animals (huge surreal cows, multi-colored alligators, and life-like mushrooms) that were never seen before– not only that, but the flora and fauna truly emphasise the contrast of this greener nation compared to the rest.

Due to the overwhelming amount of new chunks and new lands to explore; Genshin Impact also introduced new mechanics that allow players to fly from end to end, as well as allowing players to launch themselves in the air to reach high places. The first transportation method is similar to a slingshot, whereas the second one is similar to a bouncier trampoline.

Being introduced as the nation of wisdom and rationality, Sumeru immediately involves players in its mysterious lore of secrecy. The plot of the Archon Quest (introductory quest) intrigues , as hints of it enrich the intrigue and curiosity of its travelers. Aside from the lore, players are thrilled as several cultures – from India, Ancient Egypt, and Persia – are represented in the fashion, architecture, and the characters’ names.

Moreover, the Dendro element that resonates with nature, allows players to create more elemental reactions with the characters that they already have, to deal high damage to entities. The new elemental reactions are called ‘bloom’, ‘catalyze’, and ‘burning’– and best of all, they can be experimented on with the newly added mobs that lurk within Sumeru.

Not only are the Dendro reactions present, but two newly released characters representing the same element, Tighnari and Collei, are ready for the players to try out. As the name Collei may ring a bell to the Genshin Impact Manga readers, her dialogue hints to her tragic backstory shown exclusively in the manga; which has made her a lovable and compelling character in the game. Although it may seem unfair to compare a recently developed character to a pre-introduced one– Tighnari makes it known that he is competent to win fans’ hearts, as his in-game kit reveals him to be a powerful character– but aside from that, he is shown to possess an overwhelming amount of intelligence, and a nurturing, humble attitude. Surely, players will love him in no time! Especially since a story quest about him has been released for players to learn more about this fox-like human.

Finally, the exalting OST has to be the most vibrant aspect of this update. From the usage of traditional wind instruments to the thrilling crescendos as you emerge into battle, every beat and every score makes you feel like you are a part of the nation; as if you are a part of Sumeru.

All in all, this game has exceedingly satisfied millions all over the world, but they were all faced with the drought of content and fun lore before this update dropped. However, now that a new nation is released; fans can finally end their daily resin-spending misery and indulge themselves in the quests and a vast new land to explore.
